About me
I started Fabula (Latin for ‘story’) in 2016 after finishing my MA degree in Literary Studies: Writing, Editing & Mediating with honours at Groningen University, following a BA in English Language and Culture at Utrecht University. I’d just wrapped up an inspiring internship at Parthian Books in Swansea, Wales, a true underdog in British publishing committed to telling Welsh stories. Back in the Netherlands I entered the educational sector and began sharing my love for literature and history to inspire others. I became more and more interested in the different ways in which people learn and obtained a degree in didactics from LOI in 2019.

My aim is for people to recognise themselves in my work and extend that recognition to others. As a member of the LGBTQ+-community I know how important it is to feel seen in society, and how sharing stories can help to develop self-confidence and self-awareness. I believe education can make a valuable contribution to this by putting diversity and inclusivity centre-stage. I love seeing that education is becoming more and more interactive and, concurrently, more accessible. The interplay between educator and audience, past and present, textbook and society remains my biggest source of inspiration.
It’s important to me that ‘loaded’ subjects like mental health, social inequality and injustice become less taboo. This belief also motivates me to do volunteer work for organisations like Savannah Bay, an LGBTQ+ bookshop in Utrecht, and Open Jewish Houses/Houses of Resistance, our national WWII remembrance programme. As an inveterate humanities scholar, every now and again I publish my own literary and cultural criticism in (online) magazines and on my own WWII-themed blog, Re:war.
In my spare time, I’m usually muddying my boots and wielding my binoculars to look for birds, cooking up a storm, kickboxing, painting and drawing or sitting in a café with a book. My pronouns are they/them and she/her.
